Futurists Keep Asking This Like Jesus Forgot to Mention It

The Question Every Futurist Runs To
Every futurist has one question they think destroys preterism.
It shows up in every debate, every argument, every thread they jump into.
If Jesus returned in AD 70, then where is the Second Coming?
They treat it like a trap.
Scripture treats it like the easiest answer in the New Testament.
Most believers imagine a global sky event created by tradition and Hollywood.
Jesus never described anything like that.
He defined His coming on His own terms.
Jesus Said When He Would Return
He gave a clear timeline
He did not leave it symbolic or open-ended.
“This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”
Matthew 24:34
Not a future race.
Not a distant age.
A real generation standing right in front of Him.
His audience locks the timing
Jesus spoke directly to the people who would witness it.
“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies.”
“Let them in Judea flee.”
“You will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.”
He was not speaking to us.
He was speaking to them.
And He kept His word.
The Second Coming Was Judgment, Not a Global Light Show
Scripture sets the pattern long before the first century
Futurists expect explosions in the sky.
Jesus described covenant judgment, the same kind the prophets spoke of.
Here are the Old Testament parallels He was drawing from.
God came against Egypt:
Isaiah 19:1
“Behold, the Lord rides upon a swift cloud and shall come into Egypt.”
God came against Assyria:
Nahum 1:3
“…the clouds are the dust of His feet.”
God came against Babylon:
Isaiah 13 uses the same judgment language Jesus used.
Sun darkened.
Moon not shining.
Heavens shaken.
All describing Babylon’s fall to the Medes.
None of these were sky events.
They were historical judgments carried out through invading armies.
Jesus followed this exact pattern
When He spoke of “the Son of Man coming in the clouds,” He was using the courtroom language of judgment that Israel already understood.
It pointed to the end of the Old Covenant world.
And that judgment landed in AD 70 exactly as He promised.
So Where Is the Second Coming?
Right where Jesus placed it
Not in our future.
Not in our headlines.
Not in modern imagination.
His coming is anchored in the destruction of Jerusalem in the first century.
That moment confirmed that:
• The Old Covenant ended.
• The New Covenant stood alone.
• Resurrection life became the permanent reality for believers.
• The faithful now go directly to be with Jesus upon death.
Nothing is missing.
Nothing was delayed.
Nothing failed.
The Real Issue Is Not “Where Is the Coming?”
The real issue is simple
Why do so many believers refuse to accept the timing Jesus Himself gave?
Futurism clings to the idea that Jesus missed His deadline.
Preterism simply believes He told the truth.
Once you remove tradition, the picture becomes clear.
The Lord kept His promise to that generation.
Not ours.
