If Jesus predicted the end of the universe, someone forgot to inform it. But if He predicted the end of the Old Covenant, everything lines up with frightening accuracy.
The Greek Words Nobody Checks
AION vs KOSMOS
AION (G165) means age, era, covenant period.
KOSMOS (G2889) means world, created order, humanity.
They are not the same word.
Matthew 24:3 Uses AION
The disciples said end of the age, not end of the world.
The KJV translated aion as world more than thirty times.
Futurism built an entire system on that mistake.
What AION (Strong’s G165) Actually Means
It describes a time-span marked by a specific order, often tied to a covenantal system..
We live today in the New Covenant age.
The age ending in Matthew 24:3 was the Old Covenant age.
What Age Meant to the Jews of Jesus Day
First Century Expectations
The disciples were not expecting the universe to vanish. They were expecting the end of the Mosaic age. The Temple, sacrifices, and priesthood defined their world before they met Jesus.
Historical Witnesses
Dead Sea Scrolls writers said they lived in the last days of the present age.
Fourth Ezra asked when the first age ends and the next begins.
Jesus answered in their language.
Rabbinic Writers Confirm AD 70 Ended an Era
Rabbinic voices after the destruction did not deny prophecy.
They said the age of sacrifice ended and a new order began.
Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai taught that atonement would now come through mercy and repentance, not animal sacrifices.
They treated AD 70 as the end of a covenant world.
Exactly what aion means.
Josephus Shows What the End of an Age Looks Like
Sacrifices Stopped
The daily offering ceased for the first time in centuries.
The Priesthood Collapsed
Thousands of priests were killed.
No altar remained to serve on.
The Temple Burned
The sanctuary, the center of the covenant, dissolved in fire.
Jerusalem Leveled
Stones torn down.
Records destroyed.
Nation shattered.
To a first century Jew, this was the end of their world.
Jesus predicted all of it.
The Futurist Linguistic Error
The KJV and NKJV Contrast
KJV says end of the world.
NKJV corrected it to end of the age.
The NKJV translators recognized that aion does not mean world.
It means covenant age.
Why the KJV Made the Error
KJV translators assumed Jesus was speaking about the end of the physical world.
Early English lacked a clean word for aion.
They inserted world into the text.
But the Greek never said that.
Correct the translation and the entire prophecy fits the first century.
What Jesus Actually Predicted
The Evidence Lined Up
Greek says age, not world.
The disciples expected the end of the Mosaic age.
Rabbis interpreted AD 70 as the end of sacrifice.
Josephus recorded the collapse of the covenant system.
Jesus time stamped the event to that generation.
The Real Fulfillment
Jesus predicted the end of the Old Covenant age.
It ended in AD 70 exactly as He said.
The age of sacrifice ended.
The age of the Temple ended.
The age of the Law as covenant ended.
The age of Messiah’s kingdom took its place.
The universe did not end.
The covenant did.
Jesus was right on time.
